Howdy, I am looking at coming to Panama City in December and am wondering if diving is still active that time of the year. Keep in mind I'm from Canada and have dove in 60 degree water before, and it was no problems. Are there still charters going out then? How far are the springs? THANKS!

The diving here in December is pretty good, the water is cold, but as long as you don't mind a little shivering it's no big deal. Last year, I was out diving probably once or twice a week at that point in time.
Also, like you said, the springs are only about an hour north of here, so you can run up there in no time.

I am trying to come dive in PCB in mid-December (because thats when I get off from school), and I was wondering exactly how cold the Gulf is around mid-December and what the visibility was like? I just got a new underwater camera for my birthday and I am dying to use it. Also, I would also like to try out the springs one day...do those stay warm year round and if so are they an interesting dive? Any more info on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I dive year 'round down here, both the jetties and the springs. The springs are mid-60's or so year 'round, and the gulf is very much within the toleration range to me.
My son and I will be hitting the water during the weekends, and so will a dive buddy if he isn't working, if you'll be able to dive on the weekend let me know! A trip out on the Fintastic is a must if you're coming down here; the boat is awesome and the crew is fantastic!
By the way, what camera did you get for your birthday?

Well I was diving about a week ago and the water was 44 degrees F. so I'm ready for the warm winter Florida water. What is the name of the closest springs, any links to them? THANKS, thesunbaron

Don't know which way you are coming. I hit I-10 in Bonifay, head west until I come to hwy 81. There'll be a sign shortly before you get to that exit advertising for Vortex Springs. If you want to go to Vortex (18 dollars per person, there's a cave and a lot of of those orange goldfish fish to see) turn north and go about five miles until you see the sign. Morrison Springs is free, and I think it is a much nicer dive. Turn south, go about three or so miles. On the right you'll see a hard to see sign pointing you to turn left on S 181A. Go down it a couple miles until you see Morrison Sprrings Rd on your right. Follow it to the spring. It'll turn into a dirt road. Stop before you hit the water. It has caves, fish, eel, etc. The creek is fun to go down and see the bass, the pike and tarapin. Pics of Morrison Springs on my son's website. www.divingnutz.com/morrison.htm
